Q: Am I the right trainer for you?
A: The best training results happen when the trainer and the owner are on the same page. I am likely the right trainer for you if you want to be involved, I do not just train your dog, I coach you on how to communicate with them, If you are excited to learn the "how" and "why" behind your dog's behavior, we"ll be a great team. I may NOT be the right fit if you are looking for a "quick fix" or a "guarantee" of perfect behavior in a few days, want to drop your dog off and have then come back "fixed" without your participation, or you prefer using heavy-handed or punitive methods as a first resort. Bottom line is if you love your dog and are ready to put in the work to see them succeed, I can't wait to meet you!
Q: What experience do you have as a dog trainer? How long have you been a trainer?
A: I have worked with hundreds of dogs of all breeds and sizes, I had the opportunity to work with excellent trainers, such as Tyler Muto, Duke Fergueson, Cesar Millan, Martin Deeley, I have been a trainer for more than 15 years.
Q: What methods do you use?
A: We use positive reinforcement, balanced or reward based. We do use different training tools to help your dog understand when leash pressure is applied what it means.
Q: What do you do when a dog makes a mistake?
A: I first determine if the dog is learning. I simply withhold the reward, reset them, and guide them into the correct position again. I do not punish a dog for not knowing something yet. I might use a verbal correction like "nope" or a quick pop on the leash to redirect their focus, immediately followed by praise the second they get it right. Its all about clear communication, showing themexactly what doesn't work so the right choice becomes more obvious.
Q: Do you use tools like prong, slip leash or ecollars?
A: I am a balanced trainer, which means I use a variety of tools tailored to each individual dog. While my foundation is built on positive reinforement and rewards, I may use tools like a slip leash, or e- collar to provide clear communication and boundaries, especially if we are workinf off-leash reliability or high distraction environments. These tools are never used to cause pain or fear, rather, I use them as a "tap" or a subtle cue to get the dog's attenton. I always ensure the dog understands the command first through reward -based training before introducing any tool-based pressure, and I will spend a significant time teaching YOU how to use them safely and humanely. Tools are for communication not control.
Q: Is treat training considered bribery?
A: Treat training is not bribery. Bribery happens when you continue to give the dog food after it alreadly understands the behavior. We use food in the beginning of our training as an incentive and give value to what behavior we are working on.
Q: What is your experience with dog's that have aggression towards people or other dog's?
A: My first priority is keeping everyone safe. We will implement management tools like, crates, gates, or a muzzle training immediately to prevent the behavior from being practiced while we work on the solution. We find out the root cause so we can have a realitic expectation. I have extensive experience working with dogs that show agression towards people and other dogs. My approach is based on the understanding that aggression is a sympton, often rooted in fear, insecurity, or lack of communication. WE have to address the root cause in order to stop the aggression.
Q: What if my dog has a bite history? Or has severe agression?
A: To ensure the highest level of safety and the best possoble outcome for your dog, we do not take on cases involving a known human or dog bite history, or severe aggression.
Q: Can you provide client references?
A: Absolutely! We are proud of the relatioships we've built with our clients and the progress they've made with their dogs. You can find many of our past success stories and reviews right here on our website or by using our public profiles on Google Business and Facebook. These platforms offer a transparent look at our training results from verified owners.
Q: Will you train the dog, or teach me to train the dog?
A: Owner involvement is crucial. We work together so I can help you undertsand the importance of leadeship for your dog.
Q: How long does it take to train a dog?
A:Because every dog is an individual and every owner has different goals, there is no "one-size-fits-all" timeline. Training is a process of communication, not a mechanical repair.
Q: Do you offer a quarantee?
A: We will support you through your training process to ensure you are getting all the tools needed to meet your goals. It is up to you as the owner to follow through with the instructions given daily so both you and your dog are successful.
Q: How do handle emergencies or injuries in your board and train program?
A: You will be notified and if the injury is serious your dog will be taken to your veterinarian if it is open and if not to the nearest animal hospital to be treated.
